Consultant on Labour Laws in Mauritius, Mr Leevy Frivet achieved a remarkable humanitarian action last week in Mauritius.
Leevy Frivet, who is also a preacher, with the help of a lawyer, Ganessen Mooneesawmy managed to stop the illegal deportation of 13 Nepalese who initially complained against their employer, Neeruj Joyessur of Joyessur Agricultural Marketing, a company in Mauritius.
Mr Frivet, a former adviser at the Ministry of Labour who resigned in 2019, unhappy with how Former minister of Labour, Soodesh Callichurn was handling migrant workers issues, decided to accompany these Nepalese to fight for their rights. But after complaints, the workers were arrested, handcuffed and driven to the airport with a single ticket to Mumbai, all illegally done by Neeruj Joyessur.
Passport and Immigration Office was contacted by Mr Leevy Frivet and lawyer Ganessen Mooneesawmy to stop the deportation and they succeeded.
Brought before the magistrate Prashant Bissoon on last Monday for charge of illegal stay, the Court criticized the police for this arrest and freed them.
