Due to the
unprecedented situation linked to the global pandemic, the SATA Annual Conference will be a
virtual event with members participating through videoconferencing. The theme for this 2021
online event, as per the approved SATA Strategic Plan 2019-2022, is “ICT Connectivity and Service
Delivery for the Benefit of All: Transforming our Society through Broadband and ICT
The opening ceremony will be held on 27th April in the presence of Honourable Dr. Faustine
Ndugulile, Minister of Communication and Information Technology, United Republic of Tanzania.
SATA’s mission is to co-ordinate the development of regional Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) networks and services that are responsive to the diverse needs of the SADC
Socio-Economic Development Programmes.
In 2019, Mr Sherry Singh, CEO of Mauritius Telecom, was appointed as SATA Chairman for the year
2019-2020 during the 39th Annual Conference held in Mauritius. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic
challenges, his Chairmanship was unanimously extended by the SATA board for the year
During the 41st Annual Conference, there will be some 200 participants from a diversity of
countries namely Angola, South Africa, Bostwana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Democratic
Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Mozambique, Tanzania, Malawi, China, Italy, Slovenia and Mauritius.
These delegates from the telecom and ICT industry will have the opportunity to exchange and
share their experience on a wide array of subjects including Technology & Infrastructure, Policy
and Strategy for the future of the Telecom Industry. SATA, which represents more than 50% of the
companies on the ICT sector in the Southern Africa Development Community, provides an ideal
platform for synergies among members for the benefit of each member country.
On 29 April 2021, there will be a virtual passing on ceremony of the Chairmanship between the
Chairman of SATA for the period 2019/2021, Mr Sherry Singh and the new Chairman of SATA,
Mr Waziri Waziri Kindamba, Director General, Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation.
