The Ministry of Health and Wellness notes with concern, the allegations made pertaining to the supposed birth and deaths of twins at Victoria Hospital between the 23rd of June 2020 and the 1st of July 2020.
These claims have been made by Mrs. N.A.C, residing Poudre d’Or Hamlet and she has lodged a Police Complaint on the same issue. This case is being dealt with utmost seriousness at the level of the Ministry.
An investigation carried out by the Ministry of Health and Wellness confirms that Mrs. N.A.C has attended Victoria Hospital and SSRN Hospital during these last two months. On 4 occasions she attended these institutions for ailments other than pregnancy.
On the 13th of May 2020, the patient attended Victoria Hospital (ENT Unit) and stated she was 8 months pregnant. Patient was advised for admission but she refused and signed the Discharge Against Medical Advice (DAMA) for personal reasons.
On the 7th of June 2020, patient attended SSRN Hospital in a distressed state. Patient was advised for admission by the Gynecology & Obstetrics Department. In spite of strong medical advice from the Doctor, patient along with husband, refused admission and insisted on signing the Discharge Against Medical Advice, stating that they would continue their follow up in the private sector. On the 23rd of June 2020, patient attended Victoria Hospital (ENT Unit) for an ear problem. Patient was admitted on the same date and discharged on the 25th of June after treatment for ENT problem and Diabetic control.
It is to be noted that patient had no Ante Natal follow up in any of the institutions mentioned above, prior to her visits, and neither did she give birth in these institutions.
After a full enquiry at Ministry’s level, the case has been reported to the Police by a staff of Victoria Hospital, for further investigation.
